Frequently Asked Question
Notes: Calibrate VED magnifications and Touch probe diameters before performing the following procedure.
Set the ref probe tip(straight down stylus) to current in the Contact Probes setup screen.
Typically VED TP cross cal is performed at the highest magnification position.
1. In M3, execute a new part.
2. Using a VED probe, probe a Circle feature at the “infocus” position of the ID of your ring gauge calibration artifact.
3. Using a VED probe, probe a single-point Plane feature on the top of your ring gauge calibration artifact.
4. Construct a Point feature from the Circle feature and Plane feature you measured in steps two and three.
5. Switch probes to the reference Touch Probe tip.
6. Using the reference probe tip, probe a Circle on the ID of the ring gauge calibration artifact.
7. Using the reference probe tip, probe a single-point Plane feature on the top of your ring gauge calibration artifact.
8. Construct a Point feature from the Circle feature and Plane feature you measured in steps six and seven.
9. You should have two Circles, two Planes, and two Points in the feature list.
10. Go to the SettingsContact Probes and press the “Import Cross Cal Features” button. You should see the cross cal values populate the cross Calibration offset field
11. Verify the cross-results by measuring the calibration ring gauge with both the VED probe and reference touch probe. You should only see up to 0.010mm difference in X & Y and no more than 0.020mm error in Z between the two sets of measurements. Z is larger because of the depth of field (depth in Z at which the image remains in focus) of the video image.
